What is the StoryBrand Framework?

Building a StoryBrand was written by New York Times Best-Selling Author Donald Miller. In the book, he breaks down the seven elements of storytelling that invite your customer into a story and move them to action. 

A Character

Your story starts with a Character who wants something.

What does your customer want as it relates to your business?  

Nothing is more powerful than a deep understanding of your customers.

Has a Problem

What is preventing your customers from getting what they want?

Break the problem into three parts.

External Problem: The thing getting in the way.

Internal Problem: How it makes your customer feel (this is your pain point).

Philosophical Problem: Why is it just plain wrong that your customer cannot get what they want?

And Meets a Guide

YOU are the guide in your customer’s story. They are the hero.

To be the Guide in the story, you need to display both Empathy AND Authority.

Empathy: How do you show your customer that you feel their pain?

Authority: Display your experience and expertise in having solved the problem for others in the past.

 

Who Gives Them a Plan

No one trusts a guide without a plan. Here are the two types of plans in the StoryBrand Framework.

Process Plan: Define the three simple steps your customer must take to find success in working with you.

Agreement Plan: What promises can you make to your customers regarding how you will work with them or what they will achieve in working with you? 

 

And Calls Them to Action

Once someone trusts you as their Guide, they will go where you tell them to go.

What is the ONE THING your customers must do to do business with you and win the day?

This is basically your “buy now” button. 

That Helps Them Avoid Failure

If there is no consequence for NOT doing business with you, there is no reason to do business with you.

What are two to four consequences your customers might face if they fail to take action? 

And Ends In Success

Paint a picture of where you are taking your customers.

What does THEIR success look like in business, in life, personally, professionally.

Show that success in words, pictures, videos, testimonials, case studies, and more.

People want to know where you are taking them.

Even the companies most in tune with their customers needed coaching to get their messaging right.

StoryBrand AI simply takes what you give it and gives you first drafts of your marketing collateral, regardless of the quality of your prompts.

If money is tight, it can be a good tool for guiding you in the right direction. With good prompts, it can help you improve your messaging.

It’s not a replacement for an experienced StoryBrand coaching and Marketing Strategist. At least…not yet.
